George Brown
Class of 2009. (Deceased) George, the father of Don Brown, became a CFOA member in 1937. After serving on the Executive Board in 1941, 1943, and 1944, and being the Vice President in 1945, George was elected to the Presidency in 1946. In an era when all local officials worked the home team games, George worked many NFL games for the Cleveland Rams, as did many others. While these officials were undoubtedly impartial, the term 'Homer' was originated due to this practice. The NFL soon changed this policy to have all games officiated by traveling officials.
