Biography



Hal Lebovitz
Class of 2009. (Deceased) Hal was admitted to the CFOA in 1942, was elected President in 1954, and served on the Executive Board in 1968. He was honored as one of the CFOA's "Men of the Year" in 1983. Hal was a multi-sport official traveling with the Harlem Globetrotters and working games in the National Basketball Association. He was a nationally famous author and sportswriter with his "Ask Hal, the Referee" column published in newspapers across the country. He is enshrined in the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame, the Case Western Reserve Spartan Hall of Fame, the Greater Cleveland Slo Pitch Softball Hall of Fame, as well as in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame as a sportswriter. Hal was the Sports Editor of both the Cleveland News and the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspapers. Hal was also the recipient of the Greater Cleveland Football Coaches Association 'Golden Deeds' Award.
