Biography



Fred Heinlen
Class of 2009. (Deceased) Fred, the former Athletic Director at Shaker Heights High School, joined the Association in 1953. He was elected to the Executive Board in 1967, to the Vice-Presidency in 1968, became the President in 1969, and then chaired the Executive Board in 1970. He was appointed to the New Officials Program Committee in 1974. He was appointed Mechanics Interpreter in 1965. He also served as the Rules Interpreter for many years. Fred also conducted a pre-meeting "Rookie" class for new officials who appreciated his training and mentorship. He was named CFOA "Man of the Year" in 1986. He worked many Ohio State Finals games and is in the OHSAA Officials Hall of Fame as well as the OHSAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. Fred was also a MAC college official. Additionally, he conducted sandlot baseball clinics for the Cleveland Indians and wrote a well-regarded book on the role of the coach in baseball. Fred has also been inducted into the Lake Erie Basketball Officials Association Hall of Fame.
